No photography is allowed inside the house but it is exactly the same as on the show. The tour started in the double-library with the high-back red sofa's and Lord Grantham's desk. We continued on through the Music Room, the Smoking Room and the Drawing Room eventually making it to the Dining Room with the famous painting by Van Dyke. Upstairs there were signs in each of the 11 bedrooms noting which Downton character slept there. At the end of the tour, we descended the main staircase and had a good view of the large Saloon straight ahead. We also saw the backstairs which the servants used although the actual filming of the servants quarters happens in a studio in London, not in the castle itself.

J had never watched Downton Abbey so as soon as we got home we put on the first episode. It was fun to watch all the scenes around the house knowing we were just there. The day was pretty miserable, rain, rain and more rain. If we didn't have pre-booked tickets we probably would have chosen another day for a visit so that we could explore the grounds a bit more but J, K & C were pretty good sports.
