Afterwards, we went for an early dinner at Polpo in Covent Garden. Polpo is an Italian tapas restaurant that's been on my visit list for some time now. We tried to go on Christmas Eve but it was closed. The restaurant doesn't take reservations and there is always a wait but luckily we were early enough to get seated right away. Both kids polished off their meatballs & spaghetti while J & I sampled a variety of dishes including pizzettes, bruschetta, meatballs and asparagus. Dessert was cannoli. I'm glad we went although I'm not sure I would go again, especially if I had to wait on a long line. The meal was good but not a WOW.

We walked through Trafalagar Square where there was a St. George's Day celebration earlier in the day. The square was lined with red and white tents and banners. It was a pleasant evening so we decided to continue walking through the Mall and St. James' Park. The Mall was lined with Union Jack flags as the crews set up for the finish of the London Marathon.

When we moved to London we lived in Westminster and J used to take the kids to the playground at St. James Park all the time. Unfortunately the playground was closed by the time we reached it but we still enjoyed the the walk and all the bird watching along the way.

Springtime has sprung in London - lovely view of Buckingham Palace from the playground.
We continued walking on the the Tube station, stopping at an old-school, iconic telephone booth for a photo op. Photo credits to C & K.

It feels like forever since we played tourist so it was nice to visit some old haunts and enjoy the city as it starts to bloom into spring.
