Cookout

When my dad was visiting we were invited over to my cousins, R & IS for dinner.  While their house is tiny, their backyard is humongous!  Dad and R standing in front of their 1,000+ year old Redwood tree.  Apparently school classes used to come visit the tree as part of their science lessons until it was recently topped off.

My dad is a huge California lifestyle fan.  Lots of sun and outdoor activities without the east coast humidity.

On the menu were Polish Kelibasas that we cooked over an open flame.  It was fun to cook your own meat and it tasted so good.  Over the fire IS toasted bread for us to wrap our sausage in (that required expert toasting skills). Everything we had was completely authentic. IS grew up in Poland and has found a polish store in San Jose to get all of her ingredients. There were also some other polish delicacies as sides and for dessert.

The kids thought this was the coolest thing and J immediately started searching online for fire pits the next morning.  Hopefully we'll have many more evenings like this together.
