Venice Day 3: Burano

On our last day in Venice, we took a boat trip out to the island of Burano.  Many people visit Murano which is famous for it's glasswork but we opted instead for Burano, famous for it's lacework and colorful houses.  The boat trip was about 45 min. but easy enough since it was part of the Vaperetto network.  Burano is a quaint little town although it is overrun with tourists and as a result, loses a bit of its charm.

As luck would have it, we picked the right island to visit to have lunch at Trattoria Da Romano.  Da Romano is known for it's seafood risotto and was profiled on the show No Reservations with Tony Bourdain.  J & I saw the episode a few years ago and kept it on our 'maybe one day' list.   Well this was the day and the risotto was out of this world.  Unbelievably creamy...what is the secret?
After lunch we stopped for gelato, of course.  By now, gelato eating was a daily event and it was getting harder and harder to hold out for after dinner.
I love how bright, colorful and cheerful it felt on Burano.
Rather than take the boat all the way back to San Marco we decided to get off at the Fondamente Nove stop and walk back to the hotel through the Cannaregio district.  Once again, charm around every corner.
K was sacked out from the boat ride. J carried him for a bit but it didn't last long since he's gotten sooo big!!!!
Our meandering brought us past this awesome mask store.  C wanted to buy one but they were very pricey.  It was clear that this was an artists shop as opposed to a tourist shop.
Once again we passed the bridge of sighs, although from the other side this time, and through St. Marks square.

A stop for pizza on the way home topped off our full day out and about.

  1. So awesome. I love the pic of J drinking wine with the empty wine bottle on the table. La dolce vita!
