The weather was beautiful last Sunday so we decided to take a trip to Greenwich. Aunt Kathleen and Cousin Caroline (or as K calls her 'big caroline') were visiting.
First we took the tube to Embankment where we bought tickets for a boat ride down the Thames. The boat ride is very scenic passing by the London Eye, St. Paul's Cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe Theater, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the Gherkin building.
Upon arrival in Grenwich, we walked through the visitor center which had a few interactive displays. C showing off her armor and K, C & AK in one of the 'sick beds'. Before continuing on we grabbed launch at Meantime Brewery, where the adults sampled a paddle of beer.
We walked around the grounds of the Royal Naval College and then entered the chapel, featured in wedding number 2 in the movie 'Four Weddings and a Funeral.' The kids could have cared less but they did enjoy running around the grounds and C took time to practice her cartwheels.

We decided to make the trek up the big hill to the Greenwich Observatory where we enjoyed beautiful views of Greenwich and London.

We also straddled the hemispheres at the Prime Meridian. Greenwich Mean Time takes on a whole new meaning now.

Of course, no day out would be complete without ice cream. We showed up just as the shop was closing. While I'm usually against most whining and crying, this time it worked to our advantage. The shop owners changed their mind and decided that our group was the last one they would serve. The ice cream was mighty tasty - almost good enough as the sole reason for a return trip.
On the way back to the boat, we passed by the Cutty Sark. I think J was a little bummed that we didn't take a tour aboard...next time.

On the return boat trip, we got off at the London Eye and walked across Westminster Bridge, before grabbing the tube back home.
We haven't done a lot of London sightseeing lately so this was a nice change of pace and a really fun day out.
