Along the mile more buildings with lots of character.

We also played the role of tourist, stopping at lots of shops along the way.
And our luck, another location of Oink!

Across the street from the Palace is the Scottish Parliament, with the crags in Holyrood Park as a lovely background.
Queen Elizabeth visits the Palace annually and stays for a week. While we weren't allowed to visit the Royal residences we were able to tour the Palace and see the formal entertaining areas as well as the rooms from when Mary Queen of Scots lived in the Castle.

After touring the Palace itself we were able to walk around the grounds and old abbey.

We walked back up the mile and stopped at the Whisky Experience. It just felt wrong being in Scotland and not having some whisky encounter! We didn't have enough time for a tour but it was a fun place to look around with so many different whiskies available for sale. The kids had fun at an map exhibit which plotted each of the whiskies against a flavor profile.
Dinner was at The Advocate's Close, hidden down a corridor of stairs. K was fascinated by the bartender. The place was super rustic and cozy and served mostly pub food. My favorite part of the meal was the local lager on tap.

After dinner, walked along Royal Mile back to hotel:

Your kids are so lucky to get to see and do so so much!
