Shoot Out

K's school held a soccer tournament with about six other boys schools. K's team played really well and their team made it to the finals.  After regulation play of about 15 minutes plus a 5 minute overtime the score was tied which meant the teams moved on to a shoot out to claim a winner.  For the shoot out, each team picked 3 boys to take a penalty shot on goal.

K agreed to play goalie for the shoot out as none of the other boys wanted to do it.  As a parent, it's hard enough watching such a dramatic finish but it's especially tough when your child is the goalie.  I was nearly sick to my stomach the entire time!  K to his credit seemed pretty calm and confident throughout.

He was also one of the kickers for Falcons and scored.

Sadly K's team lost the shoot out 3-2; he didn't managed to stop any goals and the last shot from his team hit the goalpost and bounced back.  Not happy about the loss or his second place medal.

Either way, so proud that K was confident enough to make his own shot and was willing to risk it in goal for his team and for the win.  As my friend J noted, "says a lot about his athletic character."
