This is 12! Each year it gets harder and harder to believe that he once fit in the stocking...and that he is still willing to indulge me with a stocking photo session.
For K's birthday this year, we rented a AirBNB in Truckee so that the kids could ski in Tahoe. K loves to ski and is constantly asking for us to take him to the mountain. Definitely his happy place.
It was a lovely house in Tahoe Donner and we would definitely consider a return trip next year. Being in a snowy wonderland also helped make it feel more like Christmastime.
Ski conditions in December are always hit or miss but we luckily arrived after a big snowstorm so the skiing was fabulous. That is until the morning of K's Birthday when the kids had a half-day private lesson @ Palisades Tahoe (formerly known as Squaw Valley) before heading home. As Caroline describes it, "at the top of the mountain, the rain was turning to ice and pelting us in the face which hurt...a lot". Needless to say, they were happy to leave at noon, soaked completely to the bone. A bit of a bummer all around. On the plus side though, we made it out before the blizzard which delivered the most December snow in over 50 years!
When we got home J cooked K his favorite meal, Weinerschnitzel, and we celebrated our (almost) teen with Junior's Cheesecake.
