Sound of Music

The hills are alive with the Sound of Music
We couldn't visit Salzburg without taking the famous "Sound of Music" sing-a-long tour.  A few months ago I finally sat down to watch the movie.  I have no idea how I got this far in life without seeing it (although I checked with my dad and he too had never seen it which makes the picture a bit clearer).  I enjoyed the movie much more than I expected and of course, the songs are just darling.  I watched it a second time with C so that she would be familiar with the songs before our trip.

In the morning we boarded the bus which drove us to a couple of locations from the movie.

All the indoor scenes were filmed in Hollywood, but the outside shots were filmed on location in Salzburg and the surrounding towns.

The lake in the backyard where Maria and the kids fell out of the boat.
The gazebo where Lizel sang "I am 16 going on 17..."
The path Maria skipped up on her way to the Von Trapps

The church where Maria and Von Trapp got married.

After the official tour, we walked around Salzburg passing a couple of other spots including the arbor tunnel, Mirabel Garden fountain and the Mozart bridge from the "do, re, mi" song...

And we walked up to the Abbey

For the remainder of the week, walking back to the hotel each night C led us all in song,"So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night..."
