Guy Fawkes Night

One of my colleagues asked if we would be watching fireworks with the kids on Guy Fawkes night (otherwise known as bonfire night).  I told her I didn't even know when it was.  To this she replied,  "remember, remember, the fifth of November".   Apparently that is a little ditty that all kids learn in school.  It never occurred to me that kids would learn about the event at school.  But apparently they do.  C tells the story (as K beats up a pumpkin in the background):
Both kids even brought home Guy Fawkes art projects - C made a bonfire and K made a firework.

Like last year, we were treated to multiple fireworks shows from the windows in our house.  C's room is on the third floor and has the best views of the sky around town.  It was very cute hearing her call down,  "K, come quick, I can see fireworks".  Surprisingly, the loud noises didn't seem to scare the kids at all.

There were fireworks going off well into the night but luckily the kids slept through them.  The celebration got me thinking about "south of the border", the first stop on the long drive down to Florida from NY, where you can buy fireworks.  In London, fireworks are sold at our local grocery store.
