First, C learned how to ride her two-wheel bike without training wheels.
She had been begging us to take the wheels off for months now but we wanted to wait until the weather was nicer before making the transition. My dad recommended this great video that J watched before taking her out. Technically she learned to ride last weekend, but she was still a little wobbly and couldn't start by herself. But she did well enough to earn some congratulatory ice cream.

This weekend she practiced some more and finally got the hang of it all. The only thing left to work on is using the hand brakes.
It was a fun family bike riding afternoon in the park - I even took my own bike out for a spin.
In other exciting news, K started potty training this week. For months we've been asking him if he wanted to go on the toilet but the answer was always an emphatic "no." Finally J just decided it was time. Plus he wanted to take advantage of the training support K's pre-school offered. The kids were on half-term so J spent most of the week indoors with K running around without britches.

While there were the occasional accidents (described to me in great detail by C when I got home from work), K took to it pretty well and after a few days, even started telling us when he had to go. But as was the case with C, poo seemed to be elusive for days on end. Finally K had a successful poo in the potty yesterday. When K reported on the events, he said it was "scary" but he was clearly super-proud of himself. As for mommy and daddy, it feels good to be on the path towards diaper-free days.
Such big milestones! C doesn't have a lot of interest in learning to ride a bike but then again we don't push it much.
ReplyDeleteYippee on the path to diaper free. It's AWESOME!!
Big milestone for both kids! Wait till you have to tell C to slow down on her bike. It's scary to see the kid zoom by.
ReplyDeleteWow! N won't even ride her bike with training wheels. They are all growing up too fast.
