It's a beautiful morning...

...when your 3.5 yr. old gets out of bed and starts looking for his sister rather than you.  This is definitely a milestone we dreamt about!

When K wakes up he calls for C.  If she's still in her room he climbs up the stairs to see/wake her. If she's already downstairs, he goes down to find her.  Once she's up, C takes K to the bathroom for his morning pee and gets him changed from his pull-ups into his knickers.  And then she attempts to feed them both breakfast.  Usually it's some combination of cereal, yogurt, granola (pronounced 'granila' by both kids) and fruit.

All while J & I continue to sleep.  (Well, sort of. I always seem to have one ear open to make sure the fridge isn't beeping because it was left open or that they aren't beating each other up.)

For the most part, it's going well and C is enjoying her big sister responsibilities although there are still some kinks to work out.

For instance, when I finally got out of bed a few days ago I noticed two chocolate coins next to the bed.  Sort of like when you're at a hotel and they leave chocolate for you during turn down service. When I went downstairs to ask the kids about it I noticed a healthy pile of candy packaging in the trash.  Apparently K wanted candy for breakfast and so C being the good sister obliged.  Mind you, she had to climb up on drawers onto the countertop to get at the candy that was stashed high in cabinets.  But at least the kids were thoughtful and left some chocolate for J & I.

And then there is Exhibit A.

The first time I saw this I had to do a double take because I thought they were either bruises or some scary rash on K's back.  I still have yet to get a straight story on this one.  But clearly C thought stamping K on his back would be fun and K didn't seem to mind one bit.

But kinks aside, it is so worth the extra bedtime for J & I.  And I'm pretty sure J is already contemplating how long he has to wait before he can teach C how to start the coffee maker.

  1. Awesome. Our mornings like this usually involve cereal pulverized on the floor...
