Paris Day 2: Cite & Cirque

After breakfast at the hotel, we hopped on the metro to La Cite des Enfants (children's museum) in Parc Villette.

The children's museum was one of the best we've visited.  One major plus is that there is scheduled 2-hour group entrances and a limited amount of tickets so it never was too crowded.  The exhibits were extremely interactive, and catered more to the 5-10 yr. old set than toddlers.  Some favorite activities included:
Clocking your sprint speed.  It was hard to pull K away from this one.  It's no wonder he fell asleep at the dinner table.

Seeing your bones at work while bicycling

TV production studio

And always a crowd favorite - water works

The children's museum was just a small part of a much larger science and tech museum which we visited after our time was up at the children's museum.  At one exhibit you could take a photo of yourself and it would appear on a moving board.  Here's a "Where's Waldo moment" - can you find K's face?

There was another interesting exhibit where you had to put on a hat w/special built in goggles and were then put through a series of tests.  Basic tests such as typing in a passcode or putting a key in the door.  The catch was that the special goggles mimicked your vision after a couple of drinks.  It was pretty funny to see the difficulty everyone had going through the steps and pretty powerful in demonstrating how alcohol affects ones abilities.

Walking through the Parc back to the metro the kids insisted on going for a ride on the swings.

We then stopped at a really cool playground.  The kids bounced to their hearts content in trampoline/bouncy house rubber pits.  C also took a ride on the zip line.  J and I kept thinking - they would never have a playground like this in the lawsuit-friendly U.S.

We had tickets to the Circus later in the day and in my head I was thinking the show started at 5:45.  I don't know why but all of a sudden it hit me that the start time was actually 5:15.  Panic time - we needed to boogie!  I yelled to J to grab C, I grabbed K and out the door we went...at which point K insisted he needed to poo.  Impeccable timing.  So as J & I stressed out, K got on with his business.  Once he was done we ran to the metro and J & I started to make plans.  J would get out at the stop for our hotel - run upstairs to grab the tickets - and then run to meet us while the kids and I took the metro directly to the circus.  It was a stressful 45 minutes but J made it with 5 min. to spare and his lungs ready to explode.

The kids really enjoyed themselves at the circus performance.  When it was over, K declared that he wanted to be a trapeze artist when he grew up.

After the show we went to dinner at Chez Janou, a quintessential french bistro in the Marais district.

Our typical table set-up - bottle of wine, bottle of water, bread basket, crayons & paper.  C drew a picture of her ride on the swings from earlier in the day.

The menu was only in french which somewhat limited our options;  J & the kids ordered steak frites and I had garlic prawns with rice.  It was all delicious and there wasn't anything left on our plates.  For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse which arrived in a family-size bowl.  The waiter scooped a healthy spoonful onto the plate and left the bowl with instructions that we could take another scoop if we liked.  We liked.

K put a large spoonful of mousse into his mouth and proceeded to pass out at the table about 5 seconds later.

On the house after-dinner drinks arrived with dessert as well.  This is definitely one of those meals I will remember back fondly on as the years go by.  And next time we're in Paris, I will definitely plan to go back.
