It was a long walk but we finally made it to Luxembourg Gardens
On the southwest side of the Garden there is a huge playground that we stayed at for a couple of hours. The kids particularly enjoyed the zip line route.

Before hopping on the metro back to the hotel we walked to the original Poilane bakery, famous for it's large loaves of dark sourdough, with a crunchy outside and soft and spongy inside. We actually can buy the bread in London, but I was looking forward to getting it fresh. The shop was much smaller than I had expected; in addition to the bread they sold a few pastries including apple turnovers and pear turnovers which we of course had to sample. We bought a quarter loaf and managed to polish it off a day later. In retrospect we should have bought a whole loaf since it is SO SO good.

When we arrived back at our hotel, Crown Plaza Republique, the square had been decked out in Chinese New Year decorations. We grabbed our bags and then took the Metro to Gare du Nord to catch the Eurostar home.
Even though it was only for a long weekend, it was a welcome change of scenery and another reminder of why we've chosen to live abroad. Paris is definitely one of our favorite cities and I'm happy that the kids enjoyed themselves too. Let's hope it doesn't take us another 3 years to return.
