Sadly I was in CA for work and missed the traditional first day of school photos but when I was home with the kids in late Sept. I managed some shots of them. Getting so big and mature looking!

C is in Year 4 this year and so far is having a good year at school albeit many of her friends leaving for other schools this year. She is one of only a handful of girls from the original form still left. The downside is that there are fewer girls challenging her academically and she seems to be cruising a bit on that front. The upside is that she has a lot of confidence and some of the old cliques that used to stress her out no longer exist. She was worried that she wouldn't like her teacher but she seems pretty happy on that front as well. He doubles as the art teacher so I imagine there will be a lot of creative learning activities which C thoroughly enjoys.
K is in Year 2, the last year at the pre-prep. This year we've been introduced to a whole new concept - the 7+ exams - where kids age 7 take exams to get into competitive prep schools. The exams are very challenging, so kids are often tutored privately (for years) to prepare. It's sort of the craziness of SAT prep and college applications brought forward 10 years - aargghhhh! But if you want to go to Cambridge or Oxford, that's what you do.
K is super bright and highly energetic however we didn't want academics to consume his life, especially since he enjoys playing sports so much, so we opted out of the extra tutoring aside from an afternoon club run by the school two days a week. The head master of the school and his teacher feel that academically K is more than capable of handling these schools, however he perhaps has a bit more personality than they might be looking for (or can handle). Well, K's personality is what makes him K so that is the last thing we would ever want to change. The assessments are in late Nov - late Jan so we will wait and see. If he doesn't get into one of the schools he wants then he will just move on to the Prep school of his current school. He has his heart set on one particular school though, so I have my fingers crossed for him!
