The Key Keeper

C's end of school show was "The Key Keeper", a historical time-traveling musical.   I enjoyed every minute of it and all the kids did a fantastic job.

Unlike the performances at her previous school which was a whole-school production held at a local theater, this show was put on only by Year 4 (about 30 kids total).  The school erected a marquis & stage in the playground which was a much more intimate setting and the kids helped in making their costumes and creating props.

C had a few small parts in the show.  One was a Victorian boss "mind the machines, take it or leave it!"

And the other was a suffragette - "Ladies, follow me, we're heading for Parliament!".

As an aside, C had to do a report on a historical figure and chose the suffragette leader Emily Davison, the first suffragette to die for the cause when she ran out in front of the King's Horse and was struck at Epsom Downs.  When I was in 4th grade I too had to pick an historical figure to study and portray and wouldn't you know, my choice was Susan B. Anthony.

The perfect ending to the show was an entertaining "Time Warp" finale!
However, the favorite song of the entire show was the horrible history "Never Drink the Tudor water".  The lyrics were amusing, albeit dark, with phrases such as "mash a slug and six worms to kill all the germs", " take the skin of an ox, the blood of a fox and run it all over your skin" and "you will die, it's no lie".  Encore, encore!
