The school year arrived before any of us were ready for it and this year the logistics became quite challenging. K moved to a new school this year which is about a 30 min. walk from our house. C's school is also a 30 min. walk from our house...but in the opposite direction. This means that both J & I need to split up the morning school runs in order to make the logistics work. Luckily K's school is on my way into work so it's relatively convenient for me. While we can take a bus there, we've been enjoying walking which winds us through an old estate home, Chiswick House & Gardens, through a charming alley, past an old church and then the final bit a walk along the Thames. While I've been walking, K's been enjoying taking his scooter. It's also been fun observing some of the wildlife at Chiswick House and Gardens. Every morning we check in on the two nests build in the middle of the lake and watch the newly hatch ducks & birds making their way. Besides spending some quality time with K, it's also been nice getting a little exercise in at the start of the day.

K's school sits right on river, with beautiful views from the classrooms across the Thames.

It's a charming school with a courtyard out back.

It's one of the more competitive schools in the area so we're incredibly proud of him for getting in. Gaining entrance required him to sit exams, interview with the headmaster and spend a half-day at the school being observed. Out of about 200 boys who applied, only 20 boys were offered places. Looking incredibly smart on day one in his new uniform.

While he's at the prep school (years 3-6) there is also an upper school part of the campus connected by a private tunnel under the highway. One great benefit of having a lower & upper school housed on the same campus is all the shared services and buildings including a new fitness center with Olympic size pool. K has taken swim lessons for years but never was really "into" swimming. That is until he saw the pool and immediately wanted to join the swim squad.

The prep school also shares the cafeteria with the upper school and there is always a selection of hot meals for the kids to choose from. I like that K gets to try a variety of foods, many of which we do not make at home. What I do know is that he gets dessert everyday. What I don't know is if he eats any veggies?!
