Pumpkin Picking 2019

Similar to last year,  J & I had to drag the kids out to go pumpkin picking.  The 45 min. drive to the coast apparently is " SO boring", complete with whine and double tween eye roll.  Luckily we held our ground and insisted, because in the end we spent a lovely afternoon and evening in Half Moon Bay.

First stop was Farmer Bob's pumpkin farm.  While the fields were a bit picked over given that it was already mid-October, we found some lovely pumpkins.  The ever-competitive kids tried to out do one another with who could find the largest pumpkin.  K's was so big that J had to help him get it into the wheelbarrow.
We thought the pumpkins the kids chose would be ridiculously expensive (eg. $40 each) and started counting how much cash we had on us but in the end we made off with cornstalks, a regular size pumpkin and 2 ridiculously large pumpkins for $40.

Josh remarked that it's the bright blue sky that makes pumpkin picking in CA so different than pumpkin picking in the UK.
Next to the pumpkin patch was an old-school vegetable stand that we stopped at for peaches, grapes and an apple for K.   Across the road some cattle were grazing and beyond that that was a view of the Pacific Ocean.  Viewing the California coast never gets boring.
After the pumpkins were picked, we headed to Arata's pumpkin farm to enjoy the maze and haunted house.  For some reason, Arata's was ridiculously busy and only C was interested in the activities so it was a short pit stop.  We'll see if it remains on  rotation next year.
It was getting close to dinner time so we drove north on highway 1 to Sam's Chowder House.  We had Roxie with us so had to sit at a table outside - the downside being it was a tad cold (although the heaters really helped) with the upside being we had a nice view of the ocean and the sunset.
