Christmas Tree 2020

This year the girls traipsed into the Santa Cruz mountains to find our Christmas tree. There were reports that local Christmas tree farms were closing given how much earlier in the season families were getting their Christmas Trees.  So in the spirit of not missing out, we headed out on a Sunday afternoon to find out tree.  Our first farm we stopped out was pretty disappointing.  They grew a variety of tree types but not many of the ones we were looking for.  On the way back to the highway we saw a sign for another tree farm, Peacock.  It was getting late but we thought we'd try our luck.  The sign said 'closed' but the lady at the gate said if we were quick she'd let us in.  So the chase was on!  We drove to the last of 3 locations on the mountain and started out.  All the trees were growing on the hillside which can make it challenging to find one without bare spots and they all have some element of 'character'.  We were nearly at the end of the property when we spotted one we liked.  While smaller than any tree we've previously gotten, it definitely looked nice all-around.

C and I took turns sawing the trunk and together carried it back to the parking lot.  While C was strong enough to carry it herself (Girl Power!) we had to walk up a steep hill to get back so two people carrying definitely made it easier.

After using a ridiculous amount of twine to tie the tree to the car (I was so nervous it would fly off as we cruised down the mountain) we were off.

We had to find a new spot for the tree given that K's home-school desk occupied the prime location.  J had recently cleared out a corner space on the other side of the room which worked perfectly. While K didn't come with us to pick out the tree, he did take the lead in putting up the ornaments.

Team effort and a joyful addition to the living room.
