Fat Tuesday

This year I was feeling very nostalgic about Mardi Gras & New Orleans. Now as a mother of two, the days of dancing on bourbon street & hurricane intoxication at pat o'briens seem like a lifetime ago.


Mardi Gras also makes me think of some favorite people: (1) Jan - my best friend since High School who went to Tulane Univ. in New Orleans. I wanted to go too, but to quote my mom "I'm not paying all that money so that you can go to Mardi Gras". How right she was to put the kabosh on that idea. (2) Hal & Faye Teer - my favorite professors from JMU. They are both from Louisiana and when I visit (which sadly hasn't been in quite some time) Faye often cooks up some etouffee. They are the neatest couple and every summer, hop in their VW vanagon - with Mardi Gras beads in the drawer for good luck -and tour the most beautiful places in North America.

So today, I got out my beads (which Caroline quickly claimed as her own) and cooked up some jambalaya to celebrate Mardi Gras. Josh even researched where to buy King Cakes but we couldn't muster up the energy for a last-minute trip to Berkeley. Maybe next year...
