In London they celebrate the failed plot of Guy Fawkes who tried to blow up Parliament many years ago. Oddly enough they celebrate by setting off fireworks all around the city. Guy Fawkes night (otherwise known as Bonfire Night or Fireworks night) is celebrated on Nov 5th each year. I had been doing some research on where to go to see the fireworks but was a little nervous that it would be crowded and loud for the kids, especially since it was a Saturday night. But to our surprise...
On Thursday night after dinner we were sitting in our family room and all of a sudden we saw fireworks out our back window. They were awesome. The kids didn't know what to think at first (K ran the other way initially), but after a while we all settled in to watch the lights in the sky. Totally lame picture but you get the gist.
The next night we saw more fireworks close to our house when we were walking home. So we ran up to C's bedroom on the 3rd floor and could see fireworks out of both of her windows. C was so excited that we could see fireworks from her room and was barking orders to "shut off the lights so that we can see them better" (a quick study!). More lame pictures - a view down our street from C's window.

Saturday night was the official celebration and it was better than we could have hoped. From C's room you could see fireworks all over the city. Some were great displays and others were onesie, twosies that seemed locally set off (like the good 'ole days on July 4 when we were young :) J was sort of over the fireworks by this time but the kids and I had fun running from window to window, watching in anticipation for where the next one would appear.
What a treat to be able to view the fireworks from the comfort of our own home.
