Winter Wonderland

Back in December we visited Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park with our friends MM, KK and C.  The Wonderland is set up like a German Christmas Market with crafts to buy, rides for kids of all ages, food stalls and beer halls.  It's quite festive albeit ridiculously crowded.  New this year was an ice palace - a large warehouse full of amazing ice sculptures including a fortress with ice slide.  It was impressive but very c-o-l-d inside.

The kids couldn't wait to get back outside and on the rides.  The first was a reindeer ride..."on Comet, on Dancer, on Vixen."
Then a carousel

Next to the carousel was a beer hall so we stopped to get a bite to eat.  Sausages hot off the grill.  From there, we headed over to the kiddy ride area.  The girls decided they wanted to go on the really big blow up slide.  There was a crazy long line but they thought it was worth the wait (the pink blur is C sliding down).

Rather than wait, I took K on some other rides.  He was particularly fond of the airplane ride:

Love all the carnival lights against the dark sky.

About the time we decided to leave the heavens opened up and we were caught in an impressive downpour.  By the time we made it to the bustop we were drenched from head-to-toe.  That will teach us for going out in London without an umbrella.  When we finally got back home we warmed ourselves up with coffee, tea and celebrated the Christmas season with homemade cookies and mince pies.
