Petersham Nurseries - Richmond

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we took the district line train out to Richmond to have lunch at Petersham Nurseries.  [side note:  I'm told from a reputable source it is a favorite nursery of the Beckhams]

Sitting at the cafe you feel like you're in a greenhouse, with dirt underfoot and large plants scattered throughout the restaurant.  The decor was very rugged and earthy, just my style.

We were a bit surprised by how upscale/expensive the food was but at the end of the meal we decided it was worth it.  Unfortunately J wasn't feeling too well when we arrived, but after a slice of their rustic bread covered in sea salt crystals he perked right up.  I think K ate nearly a whole loaf by himself.  My main dish was a lovely white fish perch atop some canterelle mushrooms.  Total yum!

Next door there is a more casual teahouse offering self-serve cakes and teas.  I think we definitely will need to make a trip back to do some sampling.  I'd also like to see what the nursery looks like when everything is in full bloom.

We decided to walk back to the train station along the river.  Richmond is a beautiful town with many homes, shops and restaurants overlooking the Thames.   C spotted a playground across the river which we of course had to visit.

Overall, a fun outing close to home.
