Now that we have a car we can take advantage all the the UK has to offer, which includes a plethora of beaches. After our successful trip to Brighton (despite the disappointment with the rock beach), I read about Bournemouth beach which boasts sand...real sand. Bournemouth should have only been a 2 1/2 hr. drive but ended up being closer to 5. There was an airshow in the town next door which contributed to crazy traffic...as well as everyone else having the same idea as we did to head to the beach on a beautiful weekend. About halfway through the trip we did consider turning around but we figured the kids would go ballistic if we didn't actually make it to the beach after promising.
Finally we arrived. From the parking lot was a large field to walk through to get to the beach.

But as advertised, the beach was sandy. C went in the water but K decided it was too cold.

There were also large rocks which the kids had fun climbing on.

An added bonus was that the planes from the airshow were doing passes over the beach.
Unfortunately the day turned cloudy so we decided to leave the beach and hike up the large hill in the distance. But just as we started packing up it started to rain so we decided to just go and leave the hike for another day. Before getting back on the road we stopped for dinner at Pinnochio's restaurant in Bournemouth. Yelp let us down on this one. It was a family friendly Italian restaurant and everything tasted like it came from a jar or the freezer. The town itself was super cute though.

Luckily the ride home was much quicker. I love that we can get to the beach whenever we want to now that we have a car.
