The blackberries and strawberries were perfectly ripe and we couldn't stop picking. We're still eating our way through all the berries and have made multiple batches of blackberry cobbler and this amazingly yummy Blackberry Pie Bar.

This trip to Garson's was the first time we ventured into the flower fields. The kids were insistent about bringing some sunflowers home.

Rather than our usual lunch at Garson's cafeteria (which offers really good, home-cooked meals), we drove to a nearby town, Kingston upon Thames for lunch. It was an absolutely beautiful day so I chose a restaurant overlooking the Thames river. The restaurant was called Steins, a bavarian oasis. If I had to pick a food type that the whole family enjoys, German would definitely be it. Sausages, potatoes, breaded meat & pretzels - how can you go wrong! We sat down at a table with benches outside and salivated over the options.
J and I kicked things off with some German beers....literally. Growing up there was a family restaurant in town, Big Barry's, that had a western theme and offered fancy drinks in glass cowboy boots. This totally took me back (although the boot was about double BB's).

After we ate, we enjoyed just hanging out at the restaurant, chatting, enjoying the view and playing multiple games of UNO (I don't go anywhere now without throwing UNO in my bag).
In addition to the river side attractions, Kingston is as an old market town with a center square with lots of shops and pedestrian only areas. We explored for a bit and then stopped for ice cream...really poor service but really yummy ice cream. The kids particularly enjoyed the chocolate-dipped waffle cone.

All in all, a lovely and relaxing day exploring a new area.
Happy birthday!
