J and I treated ourselves to a night away without kids this past weekend. Unbelievably, we hadn't spent a night by ourselves since C was born almost 3 yrs. ago. We went to Half Moon Bay which is only a 30 minute drive to the coast but it felt like another world away.
So here's what happened...
We had a nice dinner out and got buzzed off one glass of wine. So the bottle of wine that we had planned to share later that the evening went unopened.

The duraflame log beckoning us from the fireplace went untouched, as we couldn't stay up past 9:00 pm and we fell asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow.
Our blissful night of uninterrupted sleep was constantly interrupted by our own kid-noise alert sensors which just didn't know how to turn themselves off.
We woke up arm in arm thinking "this is what it could have been like". And both agreed, how boring would that have been.
It was at that moment that we realized we were both thinking the same thing - how much C & K would love it here. Immediately we started planning our return visit. We would go to the beach, watch the surfers, swim in the pool, have breakfast at the airport...
In many ways, the night spent alone was to recapture the joy of our couplehood days. But strangely enough what happened was just the opposite. We realized how much we enjoyed being parents and loved what our family had become. We drove home with a much needed reset on our patience levels and a new appreciation for the ups, downs and everything in between that C & K bless us with each and every day.
This totally made me tear up. You guys are awesome.
ReplyDeleteDitto on the tears!
ReplyDeleteTriple on the tears!
ReplyDeleteThe timing of this post kills me... I've just decided on a 'staycation' so that I can get away from the responsibilities of home yet have some fun with June. Pre-req = heated pool :)
ReplyDeleteWhen out of town on a business trip, I always think I'm going to love the quiet night etc... so NOT the case. I always miss the last when-asleep smooch & tuck in and I never, never sleep past June's standard 6:23am wake up.
Hugs to you all, the next trip will be a blast ALL around :)
It sounds like we can all relate more than a little bit. Happy fun staycation Isa.
