Kew Gardens

On New Year's Eve, we took a trip out to Kew Gardens which is one of the Royal Botanical Gardens. J & the kids had been there before with our neighbor and her son, but it's been on my list of places to visit.

Lucky for us, Kew Gardens is only a couple of train stops from where we live. The start of our journey - we took a bus to the train. The kids are becoming very adept at public transportation.
Grandma at Victoria Gate entrance:
Kew Gardens is an expansive, well manicured green space with walking trails and stately homes sprinkled throughout. I can't imagine how gorgeous it must be when everything is in bloom. It's hard to see, but K is holding on to Grandpa's walking stick:
And this is K too tired to walk any more but too stubborn to go into the stroller:
One part of the Garden is designed just for kids (of all ages!). Outside there was a Carousel and Car Ride. This is the first Carousel I've seen that has two saddles per horse - great for parent/kid rides.
K wasn't really digging the Carousel (yes, there were tears and no way to get off) but he LOVED the cars and so did C.
There was also a play structure outside that the kids climbed on:
And then an amazing indoor space. The room was designed to represent a garden so many of the activities had a flower bent to them:
Flower sand pit:Riding a snail:
Sliding into a pitcher plant:
A hideaway
There was a face painter that C convinced Grandpa to take her to. It should be noted that C had a melt down the day before at the Aquarium when we wouldn't let her get her face painted so it was still very much on her mind. Here is C and Grandpa choosing her design:
And the finished product - R-O-A-R!
After the play zone we had lunch in the adjacent cafe - bangers & mash for the kids and lamb, fish and chicken pies for the adults. It was surprisingly good. On the way out I snapped a picture of J's parents. How cute are they??!
