Halloween 2012

Last year we celebrated Halloween only a couple of weeks after moving into our new house so I had a great excuse for having no decorations out and recycling old costumes for the kids.  This year I'm not sure what happened.  Halloween just snuck up on me and all my decorations are still in storage boxes. I did pick up some pumpkin lights for the kids rooms though.

As for costumes, during my trip to the US last week I found a great princess dress for C at Costco.  K got to wear his skeleton pajamas outside.  Very low effort...I'm feeling guilty.  But all that really matters is the loot, right?

K was a good sport about letting us paint his face.  All I kept thinking about while I was doing it was 1. how the heck would we get it off him and 2. please, please, please don't touch anything in the house.  Since "trick or treat" isn't part of K's verbal repertoire yet, J taught him to say "boo" when the door opened.  And of course, "thank you.

J went ahead with K while I stayed behind with C while she cried and wailed about her makeup.  She insisted that I make her face up like the clown on the box and wouldn't listen to my pleas "but you're a princess".  We compromised on blue triangles.

Then off we went.  Most of the homes in our neighborhood do not participate in Halloween but usually you can find a few expat homes clumped together.  'Halloween homes' almost always put pumpkins on their windowsills or at their gate.  Some even decorate.
Princess C knocking on a couple of doors.  We had a fun time.

Once we got home, the kids immediately dove into the candy.  K chose a lollipop while C opted for Haribo gummy candy.
