On our last day in Munich, J, my dad and M visited Dachau while the kids and I spent the morning at the Deutsches Museum.

The museum was billed as a Science & Technology institute - from what we saw, I would describe it as one part D.C. Air & Space museum and one part San Jose Children's Museum. It was cool! On the first floor there were lots of full size planes, helicopters and cars. The kids enjoyed walking around them and trying to peak inside.
Then downstairs was an area dedicated entirely to young kids and we practically had the whole place to ourselves. There was lots of stuff to play with including a full size fire engine, a building pit with soft blocks, a pully system, and a hamster wheel.

Not surprising, the kids favorite attraction was the water works. Lucky mom thought ahead to bring an extra set of clothes although an extra pair of shoes would have helped too!

After the museum, we strolled along the river and found a couple of playgrounds. The first had a neat pulley system and water pump w/sand feature.

We walked some more, crossing a few bridges and then found a second playground, smaller than the first, but with a great backdrop of St. Luke's Cathedral.

For dinner on our last night we returned to the Hofbraukeller. This restaurant was a find. Not only did they have a playground out back but they also had their own kiddy play area in the restaurant itself. There were two childminders who watched the kids while the parents ordered, drank and waited for the food.

It was a win-win. The kids loved it - here is C modeling her art completed art project - and we got some adult talk-time in. Not to mention, that the food & drinks were good too!

All in all, a great trip to Munich. We are considering a return trip next year (C has already put in her request!) but this time we would go for the first day of Oktoberfest so that we could see the procession of breweries. J is also bummed he missed the Deutsches Museum so we would definitely go back there too. Any takers?
