Fall trip to Kew

The kids and I ventured out to Kew Garden last weekend on a mission to find pinecones and acorns for a craft project.  Even though the weather is still relatively warm, the changing colors and leaves on the ground tipped off the fact that autumn had arrived.

Once inside the gate, we headed in a different direction than usual, so it was fun to explore a new part of Kew Garden.  Not far into our walk we found a few pine trees so we started collecting up all the pine cones we could find.

We continued on until a stunning Sugar Maple stopped us in our tracks with the most wonderful display of fall colors.

It was impossible to not throw leaves!

We also stumbled across the Chinese Tower...with Churchill, our weekend guest from C's classroom.

And then made a quick pit stop for  ice cream before continuing our search for the elusive acorn.

I was about to give up hope when we met a British Oak tree whose ground below was scattered with acorns.  Oh what joy!!!  The kids enthusiastically trolled the ground for crafting goodies (not that you'd know it from this photo).

All in all a successful trip to Kew Gardens, not just because we found the pinecones and acorns we were hoping for, but because we got to spend time outside together and enjoy the fall colors on display.
