Happy Father's Day

This year we attempted some homemade Father's Day gifts for J.  When I was in the states I bought wooden frames at Michaels (another shop that I really miss along with Target).  The kids painted the frames and then we put pictures in them.  K's frame started out with a large red stripe on the bottom and then finger painted blue dots.  Super cute.  And then he proceed to add green and yellow, some more blue and swirled them all around.  Voila!

C work very hard on her frame, painting a bunch of hearts all over it.  Too bad it was upside down.  J's comment when he saw it, "what a nice collection of colorful butts".

Luckily the cards the kids made in school made up for it.  K made a super cute 'football' card and C made her own card and decorated a little cake.

I found some good ones too.  J appreciated the 3-D action (and correctly guessed that I had bought that card in the states).

Father's Day itself was pretty low key.  We spent the morning at the park watching the kids play soccer and then just hung out at home and had a yummy dinner.  These two recipes I would highly recommend:
Orzo with zucchini, lemon, mint and feta
Blueberry Sour Cream pie
The zucchini orzo salad serves 6 but J & I polished it off all by ourselves!  And the blueberry sour cream pie is super easy to make and tastes fantastic.  With dinner we made ourselves Pimm's.  Hard to believe that we have been here nearly 3 years and had never even tried one.  Definitely a worthy drink on a hot summer day!

Happy Father's Day to all your Dads out there, especially J!
