K is learning to read in school and every night he brings a book home to read. With words he's very comfortable with he breezes along and makes comments like "that was easy peasy" but when faced with a word he doesn't know he cowers back and declares "it's too hard".
Of course once we coax him into sounding out the letters he figures it out on his own.
It's interesting that K's immediate reaction is to give up without even trying. Definitely not the same MO as child number 1 who is incredibly confident and persistent.
