The Dropoff

Yesterday was Caroline's first day of Pre-School. And I was dreading the dropoff. You just knew there would be tears...from all involved!

Last week when I went to drop-off the paperwork at the school, all the kids were in the courtyard singing and waving flags. Many parents were there cheering the kids on and taking pictures. I could hardly choke back the tears. How was it that our baby was going to school already? (granted it's only 2 1/2 hrs., 2 days a a week, but still). Lucky for me Josh dropped C off yesterday. He was invited to stay for a bit so that she could adjust to the environment. There was some leg hugging and 'touching base' but nothing terrible. After all the kids arrived, the teachers had them circle up and that's when Josh left. According to the teacher, C cried for about 10 minutes and that was it. They asked him to come back early for the first day just in case C had had enough, but when he arrived she was busy as a bee, perfectly happy to be at school.

  1. I think these transitions are harder on the parents than the kids. The slow transitions and other techniques really have to be for us.

I'm now worried about a reverse transition of sorts for G - one boy he plays with alot at school is leaving and another of the older girls in his class is moving up to the 2 yr old class in a few weeks. And yet another boy is leaving too. He'll now be the oldest of the group. On the flip side - our neighbor's son (4 wks younger than G) is starting so we'll have a neighbor that he'll get to play with.

I'm sure C will love it so much soon that she won't want to come home when it's time to pick her up -- that's actually a good feeling!

  3. All the sudden she looks like a pre schooler. I hope your first two days of work went well. Time for LNO?
