My cousin Elaine's 20th Wedding Anniversary AND the adoption of her beautiful daughter, Piper were two perfect reasons to get all the cousins (on my mom's side) together to celebrate. Growing up we all only saw each other a couple of times a year, but whenever we did there was always lots of laughs and hours spent chatting around the table. Definitely an Irish thing! I absolutely adore these cousins so it was a super fun afternoon.
Since we were all scattered throughout the Northeast, my cousin chose a park in New Jersey to meet at. First we barbecued, with j and my brother as the grill masters. After we ate, there was an ever-so-slightly-competitive whiffle ball game. Apparently competitiveness runs deep in our family.
Grandpa Corky giving C some batting practice:
All the next-generation cousins got along great and it was nice seeing them play together (although K doesn't look too sure about sharing his balls).
There was also a little ceremony for Elaine & Ed which my brother presided over. Piper was the flower girl.
To provide a little history...20 years ago, Elaine & Ed were married at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C. Ed arrived in an ambulance and got married laid out on a gurney. The nearby tourists thought he was a wounded soldier back from duty. Not quite. Ed's 'last hurrah' was a skydiving trip with his best man 2 days before the wedding. After the ceremony, the ambulance left with a "just married" sign on the back of it and Elaine attended her wedding reception sans groom. Absolutely true story. The Washington Post wrote an article about it. Elaine & Ed even went on one of those "worst wedding" TV show - and won!
A good looking gang:
Congratulations Elaine, Ed & Piper - what a happy, beautiful family! I can't wait to see what treasures and adventures the next 20 years bring you.
