Unfortunately this post is not about C and the loss of her first baby tooth.
Monday night we had to make an emergency visit to the dentist after K tripped in his room and his mouth landed right smack on top of his dresser knob. The call I received from J was "K broke two of his teeth".
After a thorough inspection, complete with photographs of K's jaw, the dentist concluded that K's teeth did not actually break. The impact was so hard that the teeth got pushed back into his gums (((insert gasp here))) Apparently in young kids their teeth are stronger than their jaw.
So now we wait. If his gums get infected then the dentist will extract the teeth. But if not, we'll just wait for his adult teeth to push them out. K has quite the swollen mouth and gums right now and a huge gap on the top of his mouth. The first couple of days after the accident he was sad and definitely in pain, but the swelling is slowly starting to come down and he's getting back to his old, happy self. He doesn't seem to be having much trouble eating but he's having to use his side teeth much more.
I cried when J first told me and while I realize the news could have been worse, I'm mourning the abrupt and unexpected loss of K's sweet, beautiful (& gapless) baby smile.
