The Elmo Drug

What is it about Elmo that makes all kids completely melt when they see him? C had never watched Sesame Street before but when she pulled Elmo out of the box last year, she was in love. K got a little Elmo play time this week as well and you never saw bigger smiles.




I'm amazed and perplexed - just what exactly goes on in product (monster) development land at 123 Sesame Street?

    I don't get it. I think Elmo looks kind of scary, so I don't understand why they aren't afraid of him. No other muppet gets even remotely the same response over here.

    I have often wondered this too b/c ALL kids seem to love Elmo!

    In addition to being weird, Elmo is a marketing campaign. Research showed that parents were turning off Sesame Street after 45 minutes so they purposely made Elmo 15 minutes long and put him at the end of the show. It clearly worked.
