The one St. Patrick's Day family tradition growing up is that my mom always made Irish Soda Bread. Last year I found a recipe for Irish Soda Bread scones which tasted exactly like my mom's but in my opinion, had a better form factor. Easier to keep fresh and more crusty surface area (the best part). So the night before St. Patty's day, C and I made scones to have for breakfast. The batter was a bit wet so the expert baker in our house, J, had to help fix the consistency and finish the baking. They were yummy and the perfect start to the day!

Then we got decked out in our green gear and went downtown to enjoy the Naples St. Patrick's Day parade.

Even though we arrived late we found a good spot to watch towards the end of the parade route. C loved any group that came by throwing candy to the crowd. She made out better today than on Halloween. K loved watching all the different types of cars and trucks drive by (police cars, fire trucks, trolleys full of people, etc.). The bag pipers are always my favorite.
It started getting really hot (such a difference from the years I watched shivering in NYC) so we decided to leave a bit early. C didn't want to leave but we persuaded her with a dip in the pool once we got home. On our walk back to the car it occurred to me that this was the first parade that we ever took the kids to. Parades have such a fun community feel to them that I'm glad we were able to partake in the festivities.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
