Ice Skating

On New Year's Eve we took the kids ice skating at the Natural History Museum.  J & I were too scared to get on skates ourselves (15+ years off the ice can do that to you!) so we hired two instructors to take the kids out.  This was the first time either kid had been on the ice so we hoped the experience would be a good one.
We arrived a little early so we first took a ride on the carousel.  Funny enough K is a dare devil at some things (like the roller coaster rides a Disney!) yet he doesn't really like carousels anymore.  He went on this one but chose to sit on the sled instead of one of the horses.
K's instructor was fun and full of energy so he & K were a good match.  K seemed to be listening well and learning how to keep his balance.
And as a special treat, the instructor took K for a few fast rides & spins around the ice which K loved.  The instructor nicknamed K "speedy gonzalez".

The lessons started out very wobbly but by the end both kids were sort of getting the hang of it with baby marching steps across the ice.
C seemed to prefer skating more once she was given a penguin to help with her balance.  With the help of the penguin she even managed two loops around the ice all by herself.
K was not a fan of the penguin and promptly left it in the middle of the ice and skated all by himself across the ice to the exit gate.

C talks about wanting to skate again (with the penguin of course).  K doesn't seem that interested in going again and when I asked him why he told me he hurt is elbow.  I can appreciate not wanting to do something where you fall repeatedly AND are cold and wet most of the time.
