After probing a bit to understand if she was really committed, C quite emphatically announced that she did not want to wear diapers anymore. So I packed the diapers away and told her she had to pee first before she could wear the underwear. Here she is waiting with Elmo who had the honor of wearing the underwear until she earned it.
The first try was a total success, so she got to wear the underwear. And then we had an accident. Back to nakedness. The day progressed pretty much like this. She was great without clothes on but things usually went south (ha! have to laugh at the potty humor) when she was wearing underwear. When she sat down but nothing was coming she would say "it's far, far away."
As I mentioned, this all came about quite impulsively so when J woke up, he was shocked to find out we were suddenly down the potty training path. He went on a Target run for pullups (as recommended by the D1 mommies) and more underwear since we realized the accidents were quickly depleting the clean supply. At one point C urged me to put a diaper on her which I quickly realized was her way of saying "I need to poop" so I rushed her to the bathroom. Another success! This was the first ever #2 in the toilet so it was a BIG deal. Up until last week, C would only retreat to the privacy of her bedroom to poop. J somehow managed to convince her to go into the bathroom when she felt the urge although she still insisted on using a diaper. So this was a total breakthrough.
Getting C to bed was a bit painful since she likes to drink milk and water up until the time she hits the bed. In fact, we usually keep a water bottle by her bedside. So the change in routine and not letting her drink before bed made her a bit nutty (ok a lot nutty).
I stopped counting but I think she ended the day with more points in the WIN column which is a good start.
Yay Caroline! Caleb also had a water bottle next to his bedside. We took it away because he started to wake up in the middle of the night because he had to go pee. She'll be ok.
ReplyDeleteHopefully we'll both get to celebrate this weekend. We're on day two as well. Go C and R!
ReplyDeleteG also has a water bottle at his bedside (sometimes in the bed). He insists on sipping it at bedtime and many times wakes up at night for a sip too. I've been wondering how much a problem it will lead to for potty training. We're no where close to G being ready though.
ReplyDeletego caroline! awesome that she initiated the whole thing - lucky you :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job, C! Sometimes when N is sitting on the pot she will sing, 'poop, poop, come out come out from wherever you are!' They totally know when it is far, far away. Ha.
ReplyDeleteBTW, awesome idea to have friends help with important transitions in life. I think I know some people who would do that for Ruby =)
