This morning we had a bit of a late start which was a welcome change. The kids still woke up at 4am but J managed to get both of them back to sleep for a couple more hours. We decided to head up to Lahaina today to take a ride on the Sugar Cane Train. While it’s totally touristy, it was recommended by friends as a favorite Maui activity amongst the two year old set.
On our way north, we stopped for breakfast again at Kihei Caffe where C charmed the owner into giving her a flower for her hair. It didn’t last long, but it was pretty while it lasted.
The train left from Lahaina and the round-trip took about 1 hr. C’s favorite part was watching the train pull into the station and picking out which car and seat to sit in.

Once we got started, she told me that she wanted it to go ‘faster’. The girl has a thing for speed, it’s the same thing I hear repeatedly when pushing her on the swings, “faster, faster”. There was a man on the train talking about the history of the train and the surrounding areas. He also played the ukelele and sang songs which was a nice touch. Sadly J and I both left the train knowing absolutely nothing about it.Near the turnaround point we were able to jump off for a couple of minutes and we bought some shave ice. Not surprisingly, C loved it. K pretty much slept for the entire trip so aside from a numb arm, j had a peaceful ride.

After the train, C insisted that we go to a Park, which we did.
Once we got back to the resort we hung out in the room for a bit and then went for a late swim in the pool before bedtime.
K crashed early so J, K and I had a dinner picnic in our bedroom. All in all a good day although there was a lot of carol-whining going on. I never realized how far down you’d need to reach as a parent to keep your patience in check. Negotiating and reasoning with a 2 ½ yr. old can be so, so trying.
